For weeks I have been victim to the classless act that Adam Abel had become. I made an effort to change my ways, made an effort to put my best foot forward and become more like him only to watch him slip away into nothing, slip away into a seat of rage and jealousy that turned him into everything that he said he despised before. But that was fine, this week presented me with the chance to make everything right, to finally drive the last nail in the coffin of the Eagles and Abel saga and prove once and for all who it was that is the better man. This week I would step into a match I had not been in for a very long time, a cage match. The last time I stepped into a cage one on one with someone I watched as that man plummeted from the top of the steel structure with a do or die move only to crash and burn likely shortening his career. That was one of the greatest wrestlers I had ever known in Flap Flanagan.
When I stepped into that match there was no blood lust, no real hate, just a pure competitive match ... something I very much wish this could have been. A battle of two people cheered by the fans trying to put on a good show. But instead it has dissolved into a petty battle over whose morals are better and who is right and who is wrong. It was a sound marketing strategy for this match to be booked inside a steal cage, two animals full of hate ready to sink their teeth into each others flesh, ready to peel the meat off each others bones. Abel and I would fight and we would tear each other apart and we would leave the fans stunned, horrified, and wanting more ... but in the end I would walk away with my arms raised high my point proven at last.
The scene opens and shockingly enough we are not at Eagles Enterprises where we normally find Josh Eagles. Nor do we find Josh in the company of Flap Flanagan or Katie Chang, Josh sits alone in a wrestling ring, likely the same ring in which he will have to face one of his greatest rivals of all time in Adam Abel. Josh sits alone instead in the middle of the ring on a chair with a camera pointing towards him. He is dressed in his gear, hours before the show and his face is sullen.
"This is a message to the fans of the Kingdom of Pride, one that I wish each and everyone of you to see before tonight's show gets underway. Tonight I am going to step into this ring and with my opponent I will be surrounded by four cold walls of unforgiving steel. These walls will be used as a weapon, the match will be brutal and blood will be spilled on this night."
Josh looks around the ring as though imagining what might happen in the middle of the ring later that night and his face cringes.
"I dreamed this being much different, dreamed being locked inside the cage once again would have a different tone, a different omen and I am afraid that it doesn't carry the same excitement I wanted it to have. The reason is because this match will be about hate, will be about Adam Abel's desire to expose me for something that I am not, expose me for something he believes to be because he can't take the time to find out the truth and because he can't see past his own life. For weeks maybe even months the once semi-friendship and mutual respect that Abel and I shared has dwindled. Is it my fault? I did cost him a title that he rightly deserved in Pro Wrestling FIRE, I did allow his sworn rival to take it from him, so maybe it is my fault.
It may mean nothing, but I want everyone to know that was never my intention. Adam was always a man I've had a very deep respect for, the man who managed to fight his way from the bottom, come back from impossible odds and never give up. That man has since left and is not the man I step into the ring with tonight. To be honest I am not sure WHO the Adam is that I will be facing tonight."
Josh shakes his head sadly remembering the days when Adam used to be beloved by the fans.
"Adam has become a bitter school girl bent on proving there is a liar in me that does not exist ... the reasons for this change are ones that only one could guess but speaking from experience it is hard to fall from the top. It is hard to start all over again and try and work your way back up, it's hard to work out your own life issues and balance your scheduele in the ring as well. I think that is why Adam lost his passion, lost his drive. It's happened to the best of people and for this I personally want everyone to remember exactly who Adam Abel was ... a proud man, a great man, and one of the best competitors I have ever stepped foot in the ring with.
I will never take away what Adam Abel has done. The thing that makes people great is being able to face the situation that Abel is in and come back from it ... I've done it. I haven't been a top champion in years yet I still manage to stay in the limelight, I still put it all on the line and fight back from my own dark times and I have more then enough faith to know Adam will find the path again. Abel is a great competitor and he will find success in the ring again, you will cheer him again, and he will be a champion again ... none of that will be on this night though."
Josh stands from his chair moving it to the side and as though the camera is set up with some sort of auto follow it follows Josh as he moves to lean on the ropes and look across the arena.
"As many of you may know rumors are flying that the Kingdom of Pride is on the brink of a downfall and that brings tears to my eyes. Men like Abel could make this place great but have chosen to let their passion slide. That there is nothing I can do about other then try and fight with double the strength and passion to get by and continue to keep this company alive. In the end that passion will show through when I leave Adam's body in the middle of the ring, when I have drained him of all his energy and continued to surpass him and show that I am ready to make my claim to the top once again.
I feel that this match and being caged represents so much more for the KoP. The KoP itself is caged, fighting and clawing to keep itself alive ... Adam and I are symbols of that. A once great man who everyone wants to see great again giving up, throwing in the towel and moving on. Admitting he can't do it anymore when everyone knows that he is worth so much more. Against a man who everyone believes is false, a fake fighting to prove he is nothing but a good person who wants the chance to prove himself and is fighting against everything to see the KoP stay alive. We represent different ends of the spectrum and it will come to bloody warfare in the end."
Josh takes a deep breathe and swallows for a moment before looking at the camera.
"That's why I must do this, a caged animal doesn't always need to strike at someone but can instead choose to offer peace. I choose to offer this to Adam Abel ... I know Adam that we have to step into that ring and we have to rip each other apart and I know that we are never going to be friends or even allies and I accept that. I accept that you will likely never like me or trust me, but this isn't about me ... THIS is about the Kingdom of Pride, this is about the people who have dedicated their lives and their time to giving us a place to make a living. Let's bury the hatchet, let's leave hatrid and blood lust at the door and step into this ring and put on a match that people will never forget. Let's show them why we blew the roof off the arena when we fought tooth and nail in the PWF.
I am asking you Adam to look deep into your heart and remember everything good that has come from being apart of the wrestling world. Remember all of the support that you've had over the past year and to put hate aside, to fight for what is right. Let these people have the ability to cheer the name Adam Abel once again in what can be one of the greatest matches in the history of the Kingdom of Pride. Take me to my limits and force me to go farther then I ever dreamed I could go. This is all I can ask, all I can say. Tonight we are on the brink of annihilation and I am ready to jump in be it for the good, the bad, or the worse. Tonight I take the next step forward in my career and I pray for the sake of everyone that Adam chooses to make that step as well and not step backwards. Thank You."
Josh steps forward and shuts the camera off and the screen goes dark, his final message before being locked into a cage delivered.
The time had come for me to own up to my own downfalls and mistakes and use them to try and raise my abilities to the next level. This match could very well make or break my career, but so could the Kingdom of Pride continuing to run ... everything was a gamble now and I had placed all of my cards on the table.
