I knew what question was going to be coming to me. The second Kurt Noble announced he had away for me to face Chris Hart I was overjoyed, he was the only man that I wanted to defend this championship against ... but I knew what was coming. I had managed to avoid it but you could hear the whispers, hear the rumors. If I was a friend, if I was as loyal and kind hearted as I said I was then I would allow Hart to win and keep his job. People wanted to know if I was going to do it ... the air was thick with the question. I would face nothing but hate once again when they found out that I wouldn't. I was walking into Death's Desire to defend a championship, walk out as champion, and say goodbye to an old friend and wish him the best on his journey.
Before then though I was going to set some things straight. I was sick and tired of the way Noble and Sterling were at each others throats as they were tearing apart the KoP and I was not going to be perceived as Sterlings man in this, I was not going to be perceived as the man sent to take Hart's job away. I was in this position because of months of hard work, months of fighting and putting my body on the line. I respected Hart, but the image he had given the KoP was not the one the KoP deserved ... Chris Hart barely fought in two contests a month yet was regarded as the rock around here. It was time to end that, it was time to grab what was mine. I had the title and now I wanted the respect and I was going to do what everyone should do and that was earn it.
Our scene opens and we are struck by a very different scene then that of our normal Josh Eagles scenes. Josh is sitting in front of a Toronto City backdrop a table with water set up wearing one of his best suits with the KoP Valiant Championship resting on his knees. Beside him on the other side of the table is shockingly Alex Avice, someone who we have had the feelings just does not sit well with Josh Eagles. But apparently today would be a special day. Josh sips from a glass of water and then looks towards us.
"In only a few short days, one of the greatest events in the history of the Kingdom will be taking place known only as Death's Desire. This is an aptly named event if death desires to see the best in ring action ever witnessed by anyone in this company, blood will be spilled, tears will be shed, and careers will be changed forever. I am to take part in this show, I am to represent the Kingdom as it's champion in the main event against my opponent Chris Hart with our prize dangling ten's of feet in the air only in reach with a ladder. A match not for the weak of heart.
But before we get there, to that match that will shape the course of the Kingdom we have a lot of things that will need to be discussed and the air cleared. So today I have invited Alex Avice, the voice of the Kingdom to join me and ask the questions that have been on everyone's mind and hear from me directly what has to be said. I want to walk into Death's Desire with the air clean so I can walk out as a proud champion."
Josh smiles and takes another drink of water before nodding to Alex that he can begin.
"Well Josh that certainly was a very great way of describing Death's Desire. But right now we need to find those questions that the fan's desire and I want to start off right now by asking how you are feeling coming into this match? The accusations of cheating, being pitted against a supposed friend by being caught in the conflict of Kurt Noble and Jeremy Sterling, knowing that you are entering this not as a crowd favorite?"
Josh smiles mulling the question over in his head, trying to identify how he does feel about it.
"A rational man would be upset, would be outraged by everything that is going on and I can tell you that deep down I am upset. I don't want people believing I attacked Chris Hart or that I cheated to beat him and it has nothing to do with me wanting people to believe I can beat him fairly. Everyone knows, even Hart knows that we can beat each other any day of the week ... it all has to do with me wanting people to realize that I am not that person anymore. Do I like being a pawn in Sterling's little game with Kurt Noble? I most certainly do not because their actions are taking away from what is a great match up by making it about them and not about the championship and the fans.
A ladder match for the championship between two great competitors who should have the chance to step in the ring and give it all they have has been perverted into a match about someone's career. A match about one owner trying to stick it to another each backing a competitor. It makes my stomach turn ... but all these feelings and thoughts I have to keep buried. At the end of the day it falls on myself and it falls on Chris Hart to make this match about one thing and one things only ... the fans!"
Now Alex nods thinking to himself before looking back at Josh to procede.
"With this match, I believe as you put it perverted the way it is many people have wondered if you may let Chris Hart win, not that he couldn't on his own, but you may ensure it to keep him in the Kingdom. What are your thoughts on that?"
"I find that thought laughable. First off I would never disrespect Chris Hart like that, the man is a friend and a great competitor and he earns everything and he doesn't take kindly to being coddled. If I wanted to ruin our friendship I would let him win this match without putting everything into it. Next I wouldn't do that to the fans either. They paid to see the best match, two people giving it everything and the best man on that night winning."
"But wouldn't it be better for the fans if Hart were to stay with the company and continue to be part of their life?"
Josh looks at Alex and he seems to be struggling, clearly not liking what he has to say next, but his face becomes resolute.
"Yes it would be great for the fans of Hart was here with the Kingdom, we would all love that; but not as champion. Many people seem to think Chris Hart has been the rock holding the Kingdom together, including one of our owners and Hart's personal friend Kurt Noble. This perception has biased our owners and the fans. Hart doesn't not compete on a week to week basis, he barely ever steps into the ring. He has done so once this month and that was to LOSE the belt to me. I have not been in this ring ONCE since the Kingdom has opened ... I have been the one who has fought hard night and hard match after hard match.
Chris Hart is a great competitor but in these past months he has not shown the heart or the pride of a champion and the Kingdom is growing. It can't afford to have a champion who fights when they feel like it. If Hart was being held off the card by either owner he needed to do something to change that and he never did. Chris Hart is not a man I want to see out of the Kingdom, but that is what is future holds now."
Alex seems slammed and shocked by that response from Josh Eagles, clearly not expecting something like that to be said. He takes a long swig of water to try and gather his thoughts.
"So are you accusing Chris Hart of not being a good champion?"
"Yes, I am. Hart is a grade a competitor and has a ton of talent, heart, and pure intentions. But as champion of this company he has not lived up to what he needed to do. He did win the gauntlet and show he can lead this company, he managed to even defend against CK. But when the company was tumbling around us, it was not Hart who stood up and worked doubly hard to lead the roster forward. When he lost a match to me just weeks ago, he whined! He complained and put blame somewhere else on the loss instead of stepping up like a man and taking the rematch. Hart is still young, unproven, and immature. He is not ready to lead a company and his picking of a ladder match won't prove any point."
"What point would a ladder match prove?"
"I've never lost a ladder match in my entire career ... never one with a title on the line. I was the victor of the three fall ladder match to crown POW's final triple crown champion. The ladder match has always been my specialty ... you walk into it and you know your career is going to be shortened and then you leave it all out there. But this match takes knowledge, takes skill, takes experience. Chris Hart can't overcome what I bring to the table."
Alex shakes his head and he looks like he is seeing Josh completely different then before.
"You keep calling Chris Hart your friend, but to me it seems like you are his enemy."
"I am his enemy and he is mine at Death's Desire. In the ring friendship doesn't exist between the bells, you are two people who have a job to do and are standing in the way of the other's dreams and are forced to fight and compete. There is no room for friendship during that time."
"Well there you have it so we know that Josh Eagles is intending to step into that ring and retain his championship and nothing else can be said to it. Josh do you have any last words?"
Josh takes a long drink from the glass of water and then looks at the camera with intense eyes, filled with sorrow.
"Chris I can only say goodbye and thank you old friend and I promise that when this is done, I will lead the Kingdom by example, I will do my best to keep this ship afloat and I will never let you down."
The scene fades to black with those last words.
I will lead the Kingdom forward and while it wasn't said that would be a promise to a man whom I respected. I'd have to take a life in the KoP in just days time but the end result would be for the best. This was something I had to do, something I was born to do and now I just had to pray Hart and the fans would forgive me for doing it.
Before then though I was going to set some things straight.
