Silence sits alone in a cell. Not a prison cell this time, though you could not tell by looking at it. This time Silence sits in an eight by eight cell in the isolation ward of the Parthenon Pavilion in Nashville Tennessee. He has been here for two weeks now, brought in just after his match against Obscene and Claude LeBatard. A match that was lost because of the interference of John Parker. Without the means to voice his frustrations, Silence had nearly gone on a rampage, willing to destroy anyone and anything in his path. Instead, thanks to his mentor, The Voice, Silence had been calmed. He would be out of this place soon though. Eventually his frustration and boredom would overcome him and he’d leave, whether they wanted him to or not.
In another part of the facility, The Voice watched his monster on a monitor next to Nicole Morea. Though the personal psychiatrist to another member of the Kingdom, she liaised with Kingdom of Pride from time to time when it became obvious that an employee was having issues. Such was the case with Silence.
“Really Miss More, this is fast becoming ridiculous. How long do you intend to keep Silence locked up?”
Nicole Morea does not even look up from the monitor. “Morea.”
The Voice’s brow furrows in frustration. “What?”
“My name isn’t More, it’s Morea. Doctor Morea to you.”
The Voice rolls his eyes. Nicole Morea does not see this as she remains focused on seething giant in the small cell. “Very well Miss Morea or even Doctor Morea if you prefer, how long are you going to keep my monster locked away. We have some very important business to take care of tomorrow; business that cannot be accomplished with my protégé rotting your blasted cell!”
“Mr. Voice, Silence will be here until I feel he is not a threat to the rest of the roster. I understand that wrestling is a physical business, I understand that people get hurt. But your “protégé” takes it further than necessary. Mr. Noble asked me personally to take Silences case. He has a business to run and he can’t run it with your friend attacking everyone who breathes in his general direction.” Said Doctor Morea with irritation evident in her voice.
“But he hasn’t done anything.” The Voice roared.
Only now does Nicole look up from the monitor. “Hasn’t done anything? Let me tell you exactly what he’s done. November 7th, 2010, he attacked John Parker in the ring and attacked Alex Avice back stage. Both attacks without provocation I might add.”
The Voice says nothing, he merely stands there looking defiant.
Nicole continues the macabre roll call. “November 14th 2010, he assaulted Justin Kaard, sending him to the hospital with severe neck and head trauma. The way I understand it, Mr. Kaard may never walk again much less wrestle. Again, he attacked with no provocation save for you. November 21st 2010, He again attacked John Parker, and again Voice, you’re the common denominator. I’m beginning to think it ought to be you locked up in that cell and not Silence. And to make matters worse, all four of these heinous assaults occurred before he was even employed by Kingdom of Pride. If I were you Mr. Voice, I would be thanking whatever it is people like you worship that Silence wasn’t charged with aggravated assault and arrested.”
“You call it assault,” snarled The Voice, “I call it sending a message. These men abuse their ability to speak and..”
Nicole cut him off. “Save it, I’ve heard it all before.”
“Then you should understand what I’m trying to accomplish.”
“What I understand is that you’re an evil, manipulative, old man who’s warped Silence, or whatever his real name is, into your own personal attack dog. What I understand is that you’re simply using him to for your own twisted schemes. What I understand, is that you make me sick.”
The Voice leered back at her. “You really are quite the spirited young woman. Perhaps one of these days I can lure you away from that hulking man child you currently work for and bring you to my employ.”
Nicole Morea looks sickened by The Voice’s proposal. “I’d rather have my license revoked and be forced to live out of my car than work for you.”
The Voice began to laugh, a delightful little chortle unfitting for an evil man. “You say that now my dear, but the day may come when you change your mind. Now, if you don’t mind. I’ve a very important phone call to make before Silence and I leave your charming little hospital.”
Nicole Morea arches an eyebrow at The Voice as he walks out of the room. “Who says I’m going to release him?”
The Voice continues walking. “My dear, in a few hours it won’t matter what you say. Silence will be released, I guarantee it.
The door slides shut behind The Voice but Doctor Morea continues to stare at it. “Pompous windbag.” She mutters before turning back to the monitor.
Back in the cell, Silence has had enough. Two weeks of confinement with no outlet for his rage have left him feeling like a caged animal. But now, the animal wants out. Standing, Silence begins to destroy what little necessities the small room offers. The bed is ripped from the floor and hurled into the adjacent wall, the impact denting the small metal toilet in the room. With so little to work with there is only so much damage the mute monster can cause. Seeing the camera up near the ceiling, Silence reaches for it, intending to destroy it as well. It’s not to be though as several members of the security staff burst through the cell door. A scared looking nurse stands in the hall away from the melee, waiting to administer a tranquilizer.
Silence is having none of it though. With brute strength he hurls one man back through the door and slams another into the wall. More security runs in, trying to tackle the behemoth, though they are shaken off with minimal effort. Grabbing one of the newcomers around the throat, Silence lifts him with one hand and merely holds him in the air. The guard hammers at Silence’s giant hand, trying to get free. Silence merely stares up in child like wonder as the man begins to change from a healthy pink, to red, and finally to blue.
“That’s enough Silence. Let him down.”
It is a voice that Silence knows well, the only voice that has ever cared for him. It is The Voice. With no hesitation Silence drops the guard who lands gasping and clutching at his throat. The older man looks at the carnage that Silence has wrought and smiles up at the large man.
“I see you’ve been busy. We’ll come along, we’ve got business to attend to and you have a match with Mr. Parker.”
Silence turns to follow the voice but the duo find their way blocked by a horrified Dr. Nicole Morea. “You can’t seriously think I’m going to let him leave?! Especially after he assaulted four of our security personnel! No, you and your monster are not leaving this facility.”
The Voice smiled at her, further fueling her anger. “I don’t think so Miss Morea, you no longer have the power to stop Silence from leaving. Not that you ever really had that power in the first place.”
The Voice reaches into his jacket and pulls out a fax letter. “I have here a fully signed and authorized letter from Kingdom of Pride’s legal department to pull Silence out of your custody effective immediately. Seems that someone has a vested interest in making sure my protégé competes tonight. In laymen terms Doctor, we’re leaving and you can’t stop us.
“Let me see that!” Nicole Morea grabs the letter from The Voice with quivering hands. As she reads the letter her anger gives way to disappointment. Everything that The Voice needs to leave with Silence is laid out in the letter. Signed and sealed, there is no way she can fight it. On this night, Silence is free again.
The Voice smiles triumphantly as Nicole Morea’s shoulders slump in defeat. The crafty old man knows that he has won today but resists the urge to gloat. He simply nods for the monster behind him to follow and walks past the good doctor.
A car pulls around up front. The Voice sits in the front passenger seat. There is no room in the back as Silence fills the car. The large man is shaking with excitement. In a few short hours, he will be let loose upon John Parker and allowed to exact punishment for his offense two weeks ago. Silence can hardly wait. The Voice looks back, noting his young protégé shaking in excitement and smiles. He knows that very soon he will no longer be able to control the monster that he has created. That very soon, not Kurt Noble, not Jeremy Sterling, and least of all John Parker will know what has hit them.
