*The shot begins in a medium sized den, a relative man cave if you will. Oak wood paneling is on the walls and a dark blue carpet covers the floor. There are a couple of bookshelves that adorn the walls with various Boston sports related memorabilia. The camera pans across the room and finally stops on an man in his 70s that is working very hard on a ship in a bottle. The man is very gently threading the needle and string under one of the sails and is concentrating on every single slight movement he is making, even going as far to hold his breath to make sure everything is perfect before his next step. Adam Abel enters through the door but stops and leans against the frame to watch this man at work. The older man threads another needle under the mast, taking even more care and concern than the last time.*
Older Man: Are you just going to stand there or are you going to grab that light over there and shine it down so an old man can see what he is doing?
*Adam hops into action and pulls the desk lamp into position so the man can see better. The older man chuckles to himself while shaking his head.*
Older Man: All these years Adam and you still think you can pull one over on your grandpa! Did you really think I didn't hear you back there? I was on a battleship for the Navy during World War Two son, you can't sneak up on me like that! I hear EVERYTHING.
Adam Abel: Yeah yeah yeah old man. At least you hear everything you WANT to hear!
*Adam's grandfather smiles at him lovingly before carefully setting down the string and hugging his grandson tightly. The man grabs a towel off his workbench and wipes his hands off as he and Adam walk over to the pair of easy chairs that are positioned on the far side of the room. Adam sits down and runs his hands across the smooth fabric and smiles, remembering all of those great memories he shared with his Grandpa Jim over the years. The Boston Red Sox games, the first time he remembers watching Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer during Christmas and most importantly, the first time he watched wrestling. Grandpa Jim always loved watching wrestling and deep down, Jim was a major force in Adam's decision to become a professional wrestler.*
Jim Abel: So, I caught your match from this past weekend.
*Adam's cheeks turn red in embarrassment in losing and looks down to the floor, not speaking in shame.*
Jim Abel: Listen Adam, you tried to do the right thing this weekend. You looked out for that kid and tried to give him a shot at doing things the right way, but he decided to spit in your face. No shame in what you did.
Adam Abel: Spit in my face? Galen did a whole hell of a lot more than that! You took me out from behind, twice! For some reason people think they can use me as a stepping stone or a welcome mat to success but I don't appreciate it!
*The older Abel chuckles at this comment which only serves to make Adam's face turn redder, only this time in anger not shame. Jim reaches over and puts his hand on Abel's forearm to try and relax him.*
Jim Abel: Adam, you aren't a doormat or a stepping stone. You're a damn bulls eye. You know why so many people want to take a shot at you?
*Adam shakes his head no as the simple response.*
Jim Abel: Because you are one of the greatest in the world. People want to try and count you out, but then they quickly find out that doesn't really work out in the end. I mean, take that Callaway character. Last week, all he did was talk about going for the hat trick and how he would be able to beat you easily but what happened? You gave him everything he could handle and more.
Adam Abel: I guess, but he did put up one hell of a fight...
Jim Abel: Obviously he did, he has got all the confidence in the world. He honestly believes that is he head above heels better than you. That he can stroll into that ring and pick up a win every time you two face each other! But you know what? I know the truth and so do the fans!
Adam Abel: I can beat him.
Jim Abel: Damn right you can beat him. He thinks he's got all the angles? Well, you need to be a damn circle in that ring. No angles, no chances to beat you.
*Adam nods, seemingly building his confidence up with this ego boost from his grandfather.*
Adam Abel: Callaway is going to learn to be careful what you ask for. He wanted another shot at me and he is damn sure going to get it. Not the Adam Abel he is expecting though. I could see it in his smug eyes last week in the ring, he thinks he's got all my tricks down. He thinks that I'm completely scouted and he has nothing more to figure out. Well, I'm going to bring something new out there this week. This is a new day and its time for me to start a new chapter in my career. I'm no longer the rookie looking for a chance for a big win, I'm the veteran that people need to beat to prove themselves. People like Callaway...People like Galen. I'm not rolling over and handing them the reigns without a fight. I'm going to bring it to them and they damn sure better be ready to handle it.
Jim Abel: That is what I like to hear! Win, lose or draw...I want you to be a man about it. Work hard and earn the respect that you want. I know you have it in you. I believe in you son. I know the whole family does.
*Adam smiles and nods at his grandpa, always happy to hear those kind of comments.*
Jim Abel: Now I don't want to bring up a sore subject, but how is Melanie? Have you two talked recently?
*Adam sighs deeply in regret as the camera fades out.*
Elsewhere in Boston
*The scene fades back into a shot of the coffee house where Melanie Abel works, and he is shown talking to another waitress in the back as a college aged man than looks like he hasn't cut his hair or shaved in 5 months clumsily strums on his guitar and sings off key in front of the gathered audience. A black board to the right of the stage reads "Open Stage" and many aspiring poets and musicians listen and nod approvingly. Melanie and the girl in the back are quietly talking amongst themselves as the man continues.*
Melanie Abel: Wow, this is rough.
Waitress: I know! Its like American Idol in here! Only without the talent! So I meant to ask you, how are things going with Adam? Did you guys ever do that lunch date you two planned?
Melanie Abel: Yeah, it was good! I mean, it was as good as it could have been. He got called away to do a NESN interview. He tried to reschedule but-
Waitress: So wait, he left a possible reconnection with his wife just to do a NESN interview? That is some bulls-
Melanie Abel: Don't be like that. The chick couldn't do it at any other time. He did what he had to do, his fans are really important to him and he has to-
Waitress: Are his fans more important than you? No, I didn't think so. Sounds to me like Adam still has some re-prioritizing to do in his life!
*The college student finally (mercifully) ends and there is a polite applause throughout the crowd as Pete makes his way up to the stage.*
Pete: Give it up for Jack ladies and gentlemen for that great rendition of...whatever that crap was.
*A laugh travels throughout the crowd before Pete speaks again.*
Pete: Now, I have a very special treat for all of you this evening. One of our very own, Melanie Abel...Is going to sing!
*The crowd erupts into cheers as Melanie has a shocked look of disbelief on her face. The crowd is applauding and the other waitress gives her a gentle shove to make her get on the stage. Melanie looks out over the audience as Pete hands her a guitar and leans in to whisper to her.*
Pete: Come on now, this crowd ain't nothing compared to the ones at PWF! Just sing your little heart out and the people will love you!
*Pete gently pats her on the shoulder and walks off the stage as Melanie smiles in a manner to shows her slight panic and shock of this situation.*
Melanie Abel: Hi...Um, I didn't really plan on being up here tonight so I don't have a song exactly set up. But I know a certain song that means a lot to me and I would love to play it for you tonight.
*Melanie begins to play a few chords on her guitar and begins to sing in her beautiful voice.*
NOTE: THIS IS PURELY FOR YOU TO KNOW WHAT SONG IT IS. IF YOU DON'T WANNA LISTEN, DON'T!
"Of all of the things I believed in...
I just want to get it over with.
Tears form behind my eyes...
But I do not cry!
Counting the days that pass me by."
*The camera pans over to find the audience watching memorized by her performance. A solo television is on behind the coffee bar that shows Adam Abel speaking to a NESN reporter. The camera zooms into that screen and the audio from Melanie singing is replaced by Adam Abel's audio.*
NESN Reporter: And finally Adam, do you have any words for the fans that may be watching?
*Adam smiles and thinks for a moment before looking directly into the camera to answer.*
Adam Abel: I want you to know that you can believe in the impossible once again. Adam Abel is back and he is ready to take it to the top. I want you behind me. Heck, I need you behind me. Steven Callaway has become a sincere and distinct threat and this weekend I get a chance to cut his legs out from underneath him, but I can't do it alone. I need all of your support and love with me as I head into that ring. Callaway has all the momentum on his side right now, but it only takes one second to turn that all around. I believe I got a great chance going in this weekend and I have all the confidence in the world that I can defeat him. Its all about setting a gameplan and executing it. I can beat him, I will beat him. Or I will die trying. This weekend, I am going to show everyone that counting me out is a bad idea. A VERY bad idea.
*Abel nods and smiles as the screen fades to black.*
Older Man: Are you just going to stand there or are you going to grab that light over there and shine it down so an old man can see what he is doing?
