Here we go again. Same group of guys that beat my ass up and down and out of PWR are beating my ass up and down Kingdom of Pride.
Chris Williams is pacing back and forth in his brand new, beautiful but small apartment just outside of Cookeville, Tennessee. He is watching his first match in Pride, last week against Obscene. Continually rewinding the end, Williams watches as he lifts Obscene into the air, readying for the TNT.
Here you go, numbnuts. Trying to soak in your first win….
As the tape rolls, we see Obscene slip off and get the pin, using the ropes as leverage for a crooked win.
Shoulda been me.
Suddenly, Williams cell begins ringing. Unsurprisingly, his ringtone is “Runaway” by Hail the Villain – his entrance music. As he peers down, he realizes it is Alex Avice, Kingdom of Pride’s official interviewer.
The last thing I want to do right now is talk to anybody about this stupid shit. But if I don’t, everyone is going to assume the worst…. Here we go….
Williams readies himself, and answers the phone.
Williams:
Hey, Avice, it’s Williams.
Alex Avice:
Chris! How’re you doing, buddy?
Are you serious? Dude calls me in the most uppity voice he can, just to piss me off, I swear….
Williams:
I’ve been better, man. Nobody likes a loss.
Alex Avice:
Well that’s just what I wanted to talk to you about, Chris! Last week, you lost to Obscene. This week, you face a man who is the self-proclaimed “measuring stick of Pride”, John Parker. However, the man that beat you is in the main event against phenomenal wrestlers Paul Sant, Galen Ronan, and Esix Cordero. How do you feel about that?
Williams:
Shoulda been me.
Alex Avice:
Excuse me?
Williams:
You heard me, Avice. It should be me up against Esix Cordero. I mean seriously, that guy is a future Pride Valiant Champion, and I am on the outside looking in. I wanted to come in here and get a huge victory over a solid guy, and I quickly found out how tough it is in this company.
Alex Avice:
So that’s it, huh? Just gonna give up and quit again? You know, I swear I saw it coming, you washed out of PWR, and you-
Williams:
Watch what the hell you’re talking about, Avice. I’m not quitting Pride, and you have no clue what caused me to leave PWR. I am in this for the long haul and I am not going anywhere. This week, I am up against John Parker. He can say whatever he wants about being the measuring stick of Pride, but I don’t care. We’ll end up seeing how I measure up to him, but I don’t foresee a problem. He’s done nothing of note as of late, and I truly believe I have the skill to beat him. As for his crew that he has named “the cliCK”, I just hope that they decide not to get involved. I’m not a mean guy, but I’ll do whatever I have to do to pick up wins at this point, even if it means beating up on a few wrestling fans that decide to interfere in my match.
Alex Avice:
Those almost sound like words of desperation, Chris.
Williams:
It’s not desperation, Alex. It’s more of a new determination for me, something that I may have been lacking in my earlier years. More to the point, I want to be the Valiant Champion one day, and the only way that I am going to get there is by starting to win. As independent federations go, Pride is one of the best. I’m done tooling around in the little leagues, this is where I can actually make my mark on the business. I’m done playing, and it starts with Parker. Goodbye, Alex.
Williams hangs up the phone and looks up to the ceiling, breathing a deep sigh.
Let’s back this up this time, ‘kay dumbass?
