Main Event: Johnny Noble/Eddie Nash vs. The Krieg vs. Spooks and Gooks
As the scene opens, we get a shot of Pride co-General Manager Jeremy Sterling walking past a Kingdom of Pride banner to his office. The camera follows Sterling as he goes into one room that branches out into several offices. Sterling passes by a desk when a blonde woman on the phone puts it down long enough to speak to her passing boss.
Receptionist: Mr. Sterling, you have two visitors waiting for you.
With a slightly lifted eyebrow, Jeremy looks down in the direction of his office. He doesn’t see anyone, but he looks with a tilted head for a few seconds before answering.
Jeremy Sterling: Okay, thank you.
The receptionist nods before going back to her phone-call. Muttering to himself, Mr. Sterling carries on through the groups of offices before he sees two people walking down a separate corridor in his direction. A sports jacket and suit-wearing Johnny Noble is one of them and he is presently walking behind another individual, a woman with short blond hair and wearing a dark blue business suit. She is the first one to speak out to him as Jeremy gets near the door to his office.
Debra Mason: Mr. Sterling.
Jeremy stops and turns as his employee and his employee’s business partner approach him.
Jeremy Sterling: Yes? What can I do you two for?
Johnny stops a few feet near the closest wall while his partner holds out her hand to Jeremy’s. The GM reaches out his and they shake briefly.
Debra Mason: I’m Debra Mason, a colleague to the Kingdom of Pride’s managerial staff. I do believe you already know my partner, John Noble.
Jeremy and Johnny lock eyes briefly, but neither man shows much enthusiasm for the other. Johnny blinks once to pass for a greeting to his boss and then looks elsewhere while Debra continues to focus on Sterling.
Jeremy Sterling: Yes, we’ve met once or twice before. What can I do for you, Ms. Mason?
Johnny casually strolls off to look over a bulletin board while Debra answers the question.
Debra Mason: We’re here to confirm some information regarding tonight’s taping.
Johnny Noble: ”Ein Volk,Ein Reich,Ein Führer.”
Jeremy turns his head to Johnny, who has been going over a piece of paper on the board, and his jaw drops a little bit in shock.
Jeremy Sterling: E-excuse me…?
Johnny turns and still looking like he has all his sense, calmly passes off the paper to Sterling. The GM looks it over, finding it to be a formerly folded document with the current Kingdom of Pride “Oblivion” card on it. Johnny walks forward, looking at the paper and then to Sterling.
Jeremy Sterling: Oh…I see.
Johnny Noble: It’s the motto of the former Nazi Germany. And it’s also the lesser-known, barely touched-upon status symbol of Der Krieg Maschinen. But I suppose that wouldn’t mean too much to you.
Jeremy Sterling: Sorry, not really.
Sterling passes off the paper back to Debra, who takes it with a lifted eyebrow. The three of them watch as a stagehand passes them by before continuing any further. When it’s just them again, Johnny turns his head back to Sterling and exhales softly before speaking.
Johnny Noble: Hmph. You know how this all came about, Sterling?
Sterling looks around at the offices before turning and walking to his office. Johnny and Debra slowly follow behind him, Debra shutting the door last. The three of them all stand silent for a few seconds in the quiet office Sterling runs his business through. Pictures and souvenirs of Pride days past are strewn all around the room, making it look like some kind of sentimental shrine in a sense. Johnny scans the posters and doodads on one wall while Debra does the same on the other. Sterling sits down in his chair, watching as Johnny walks over to the one window in the room displaying the sunshine outside, and then pulls down the blinds to darken the room a bit.
Johnny Noble: I’m dealing with a migraine. You don’t mind, right?
Johnny turns back to the rest of the office with a look that shows he doesn’t care if Sterling responds or not, or even how. This gets a chuckle from the General Manager, but he doesn’t respond to the liberties Johnny just took in any other way. Debra kneels down a bit to examine one picture taken of Sterling with Kurt Noble himself all the way back in 2007. A simpler time for the company, both men grin as they shake hands in the photo. Johnny glimpses at the photo his partner is eyeing, but makes it very clear he’s not feeling the nostalgia someone else might from that period. Debra rises back to her full height again and looks to Sterling.
Debra Mason: You seemed to care for every one of your employees. You weren’t beyond shaking hands with those who were supposed to be playing the bad guys.
Jeremy Sterling: I took it in the best interest of Pride to give everyone the same treatment. It’s how the spirit of my company survived the hard times it did back then.
Debra Mason: You’re of course talking about the quote/unquote “Golden” period of Pride in 2007.
Jeremy’s eyes narrow in some confusion.
Jeremy Sterling: What? No…I’m talking about the here and now, the period in which you…
He nods toward Johnny.
Jeremy Sterling: Have business tonight with both The Krieg and-
Johnny Noble: This isn’t to do with just The Krieg. Or Spooks and Gooks, who you were about to touch upon.
Jeremy Sterling: Huh?
Still looking over the Pride history on the walls around him, Johnny is able to further convey what he’s thinking as a side hobby.
Johnny Noble: The Krieg are two muscled-up powerhouses. Over 700 lbs total, bred to do nothing but act as they are told, as Kaja Reinhardt will attest. They can’t be capable of very much in this company on their own, at least not in the higher levels of what the sport can bring about for them. Basically, The Krieg wrestlers are an issue of “all brawn, no brain.” They hardly fit the profile of competitors you shake hands with, much less treat like everyone else.
Jeremy Sterling: Nonetheless, the Krieg’s always been a force in the Kingdom of Pride. Whatever you’re trying to get at here, John, is---
Johnny Noble: ---Kurt has no dilemma in using these behemoths to do his bidding, to keep people on the roster in a place of his choosing. Whether that’s moving side-by-side, step-by-step with the company’s feet…or being squashed under it, is what I was trying to get to.
Jeremy Sterling: You said it yourself The Krieg only listens to Kaja Reinhardt. Neither Somba nor Balraj cares much in what he---
Johnny Noble: Everyone has something they can be “bought” with. And when you’re in a position of power, sooner or later you develop a grudge with someone that drives you to exercise that buying power. Last week, a certain someone called and placed an order for The Krieg to suppress yet another member of the roster…and that’s what leads us to the here and now. Last week, a certain someone dropped a bomb in that arena, and I jumped in the fray with the intention of weakening its force.
Johnny turns to Sterling now to complete his statement.
Johnny Noble: I did just that. And now this week, I’m sending that bomb back to the one you continue to verbally clash with but won’t do anything physical against.
Sterling sits in his chair looking flabbergasted while Johnny and Debra continue to idly look over pictures and the like.
Jeremy Sterling: Hmph…John, if you’re just here to question me on why I continue to let your brother’s actions go by every week as they do without interference…
Johnny’s hands can be seen clenching and unclenching as he looks up at a higher part of the wall, at an original Kingdom of Pride banner from many years ago. His eyes look more and more intense as the seconds go by after Jeremy’s sudden silence.
Johnny Noble: I’m here to be the physical personification of your defiance against Kurt Noble, Sir, to kill the legend of the man who shares my surname.
After saying this, Johnny turns back and begins to walk for the exit.
Johnny Noble: Thanks for the match.
Sterling cocks an eyebrow as Debra also begins to leave the office.
Jeremy Sterling: But I didn’t…
After a few seconds pass, and without either Noble or Mason turning back to him, Sterling seems to get wise to the real meaning of the statement.
Jeremy Sterling: Oh…I see.
Hearing what he wanted, Johnny opens the door and exits the office with Debra following behind and shutting the door behind her. Sterling sighs and folds his hands together while resting his elbows on the desk surface.
Jeremy Sterling: What a guy…what a guy…
Another camera catches up with Johnny and Debra outside the office as they walk away from the door. They get several feet away from the door and around a corner and Johnny stops at a water cooler to make himself a drink. Debra leans nearby against the wall thinking to herself as she looks over the same document from before.
Debra Mason: Kurt also pushed for the group “Spooks and Gooks” when he was going to work on Nash last week. Bit of an odd pair to mix in with two serious, borderline homicidal polyphemes, isn’t it?
Johnny takes a drink of the water and then clicks his teeth.
Johnny Noble: Yeah. He always had a habit of trying to be cute when he was being exceptionally ugly. Playing on one stereotype with the other is just his way now, I guess. *eyes water in cup* These offices even get better water than we do…
Debra smiles, but she still looks somewhat bothered about something.
Debra Mason: John, I really think we should’ve told Sterling what we had planned in the next few weeks.
Johnny looks back to his partner and smiles in amusement. He exhales.
Johnny Noble: *sigh* There’s no point in telling him, because it won’t threaten his position and it won’t even involve him. If things turn the other way and he ends up needing to be told something, we will, but I’m not going to stir up any trouble that’s not required.
Debra Mason: But if the staff, or anyone on the roster for that matter, runs the risk of being drug in the dirt as well, it’s my opinion that they deserve to be told so they can at least cut any ties with Kurt now.
Johnny tilts his head, still smiling and still not looking bothered by any of this. But he does look to be at least listening to his partner, and he exhales lightly.
Johnny Noble: That’s up to you, Deb.
The two stand at the cooler for a few quiet moments until Johnny finishes his cup and then tosses it in the closest trashcan, making it.
Johnny Noble: In the meantime, I’ll be focusing on keeping my limbs attached and not being embarrassed by a cultural step-back.
Debra laughs and the two make their way out of the groups of offices back into the main building.
Debra Mason: What about "The Knighting?" Not much on the calender for that one.
Johnny Noble: We'll sort something out. You manager-wise, me competitor-wise.
Debra Mason: And Nash?
Johnny gives a light shrug of the shoulders as he sticks his hands into his jacket.
Johnny Noble: I've already deduced his role in this, and I will see that he plays it out...
With that final, if not a little cryptic remark, the two turn the corner and vanish as the scene fades out.
