*The scene opens up with a shot of the beautiful blue sky with barely any clouds in it. The sun is shining down on a beautiful summer day and you can hear what sounds to be a decent sized crowd of people cheering for some kind of event going on. The camera begins to pan down slowly to reveal that we are at a little league baseball field.*
July 15th, 1996
*You can practically smell the popcorn and hot dogs being cooked as the scoreboard reads Visitor: 4 Red Sox:3 in the bottom of 7th and final inning. The local Red Sox little league team are down to their last out and a 5 year old Adam Abel is picking up his bat and taking some practice swings as he looks out towards the field. Young Adam looks very nervous as he swings the bat very quickly and then looks down at the brown dirt and exhales loudly. A man's hand gently pats his shoulder and Adam looks up to see his coach, his grandfather Jim Abel kneeling down to talk to him.*
Jim Abel: You doing okay Adam?
*Adam smiles at his grandfather.*
Adam Abel: I'm just worried I am going to let everyone down.
Jim Abel: Son, as long as you try your best out there, you aren't going to let anyone down. But don't beat yourself before you even go out there and take a swing. Win or lose, do it like a man and give it your best shot. As long as you give it your best shot, you have nothing to be ashamed of.
Adam Abel: Okay, I'll give it a shot.
*Adam begins to walk up to the plate as his grandfather claps for him wildly. Adam looks over to behind the plate to see his little sister Emma clapping loudly with cotton candy smeared all over her face and it makes him laugh. Adam then takes his place in the batter's box and awaits his first pitch.*
Jim Abel: Just focus Adam! You can do it!
*The Red Sox runner on second prepares himself to run the base path as the pitcher winds up and throws his first pitch. The ball is headed right over the plate and Adam takes a big swing and connects. As the ball flies in the air the screen fades to black.*

*The scene fades back in with Emma sitting in a Starbucks located in the Knoxville airport, using the free wi-fi to catch up on email with her laptop. She finds one from Melanie Abel and smiles as she clicks it open.*
"Emma,
I hope this email finds you doing well. I caught what happened between you and that Galen Ronan. I was really scared for what may have happened to you if Adam wasn't there. I am so thankful that you didn't get hurt, but you need to take better care for yourself if you go to those events! Some of those people are absolutely insane and they will hurt you to get to Adam!
Speaking of Adam, how is he doing? Please pass on my regards.
I have some exciting news! One of the local theater houses is putting on Les Misérables and I am going to try out! You know how much I love theater and I think this could be a great chance for me! Tryouts are going to be on Tuesday and I think I am going to go.
Well, my break is almost over and I need to get back to work. I will talk to you soon though!
Love you!
- Melanie"
*Emma smiles as she closes her laptop and sits back in her seat. Emma crosses her arms and closes her eyes for a second before she gets tapped on her shoulder and it makes her almost jump out of her skin. Adam is standing there with his eyes wide in shock as he holds out her frozen mocha latte.*
Adam Abel: I got your drink.
*Emma giggles nervously as she puts her hand on her chest to calm down her heart before reaching up and taking the drink from her brother.*
Emma Abel: I'm sorry. I guess I am just a little big jumpy after the last couple of weeks.
*Adam looks at her apologetically before taking a seat directly across from her at the table.*
Adam Abel: Look, I was meaning to speak to you about that. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you Sis. When you are at the KoP events you shouldn't have to put up with creeps like Galen. I thought he just wanted a piece of me but I guess he decided to take some shots at my family as well. He wants to really make an impact and he's looking to use me to do it.
Emma Abel: Adam, I appreciate the fact that you are upset but there was nothing you could do. You can't be everywhere and protect me the entire time I'm there! I don't expect you to and you showed up at the right time anyway! I'm fine, I'm just a little jumpy. That's all. Don't beat yourself up about it.
Adam Abel: You're my family Emma. You are all I got. You better believe I am going to do everything I can to protect you and when you are in danger, I am going to do everything humanly possible to protect you. Galen crossed a line the last couple of weeks and I am going to make him pay. Win, lose or draw he is going to find out what happens when you mess with a man's family.
*Emma stays quiet and takes a sip of her drink before quickly changing the subject.*
Emma Abel: So...I just got an email from Melanie.
*Adam's eyebrows raise interestedly.*
Adam Abel: Oh, really? What did she have to say?
Emma Abel: She is going to try out for a stage show. Les Misérables.
Adam Abel: That's great! She's always loved that one. I'm sure she is going to do great.
*Adam looks around the airport as Emma continues to study him.*
Emma Abel: Adam, why haven't you two just made up already? We can all tell that you two still love each other madly! This is getting ridiculous.
Adam Abel: Look, we both know that I am ready to kiss and make up...But obviously Mel isn't. I can't rush her, I just wish she would come back home where she belongs. I miss her like crazy.
*Adam looks sadly down at the table and Emma reaches over and puts her hand in Adam's. The siblings sit there hand in hand as the screen fades to black.*
Tuesday, February 15th, 2010
*Greg Abel, Adam's older brother is shown spreading a tablecloth in a big conference room in his gym. Behind him, a banner reads "Happy 21st Adam!" and there are various food items set up on the other tables. Greg is smiling as he sets a envelope with Adam scribbled across it on the table. Greg steps back and admires his work as he is interrupted by someone walking in.*
Adam Abel: Was this supposed to be a surprise or something?
*Greg turns around and just grins at his younger brother and puts his arm around his shoulders.*
Greg Abel: Like I can put anything by you, especially with Emma around. She can't keep a secret to save her life! I'm just glad you are in town for your birthday! We are going to have a nice little party and then I am taking my baby brother out to the bars to get drunk! I talked to Melanie and she even said she would come after her audition! Who knows, maybe tonight will be your lucky night!
*Adam looks thrilled at this prospect as he hugs his brother tightly.*
Greg Abel: Take it easy chief! I said maybe and I certainly didn't mean with me!
Adam Abel: Thanks Greg. Thanks for everything. I wouldn't be where I am at now without you. I appreciate everything you do for me.
Lisa Abel: Isn't this just the sweetest?
*The Abel brothers turn to find Greg's wife Lisa walking into the room followed closely by their daughter and Adam and Greg's parents, all carrying gifts for their youngest son. Adam and Greg greet them warmly.*
Adam Abel: Where's Emma?
Greg Abel: She went to get Grandpa Jim. They will be here in a few minutes.
*The Abel family continues to speak to each other as the screen fades to somewhere across town where there is a darkened stage with a solo spotlight shining upon a dark red curtain. The click of heels is heard echoing in the theater and then Melanie Abel walks into the spotlight. From the darkened seats a voice is heard.*
Director: Name?
Melanie Abel: Melanie Abel and I am here to audition for the part of Fantine.
Director: And what are you going to sing today?
Melanie Abel: "I Dreamed a Dream"
Director: Very good.
*The piano begins to play the opening chords to the song as Melanie prepares to sing.*
NOTE: IF YOU WANT TO HEAR THE SONG, HERE YOU GO.
"I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving"
*The shot turns to a one of Adam laughing with Greg as they tell funny stories from their past as the music continues to play.*
"When I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted"
*Greg takes his cell phone out of his pocket and it reads "Emma Abel." Greg answers it and his smile quickly fades out. Greg lets the phone drop out of his hand and it lands on the floor and shatters. Greg turns to the rest of the family with his face as white as a ghost. The family's happy faces all turn somber as he speaks and they all head out of the room.
The shot cuts back to Melanie singing on the stage.*
"But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dreams to shame......
And still I dream she'll come to me
That we will live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather"
*The rest of the Abel family are shown running down a cold gray hallway where they find Emma hysterically crying in the hallway. Greg and Adam immediately check on her as the rest of the family is still behind them. Greg leaves his siblings there as he walks to where a doctor is leaving a hospital room. Greg and Doctor are talking as the rest of the family surround Emma and Adam.*
"I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living"
*The doctor shakes his head and Greg looks downtrodden as he turns back to the family. Greg looks up and you can see tears forming in his eyes.*
"So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed. "
*The shot changes into a shot of Jim Abel laying in his hospital bed and the nurse slowly pulls the blanket over his body and walks away. The shot stays there for a few seconds before the screen fades to black.*
