"Survival of the Proud" - what an apt event name, because Pitbull didn't survive and he certainly doesn't feel proud. So as far as he is concerned he must set the record straight this week, and that makes his upcoming match against Obscene must-win.
We catch up to Pitbull walking down the corridor of what appears to be an office building as the scene begins. It goes without saying that the man is not happy after the events that took place at Survival of the Proud - the snarl he is wearing tells that story all by itself. Of course Pitbull did leave his debut match victorious, but that barely meant a thing after the Main Event, in which he was the penultimate man to be eliminated.
As we follow Pitbull, he barges into a man who doesn't get out of his way quick enough.
"Hey!" the man exclaims as he struggles to keep his balance. Pitbull, however, doesn't even pause to look back, and the man decides it best not to risk provoking another reaction.
Still snarling, Pitbull continues to march on towards his destination, finally halting moments later at a closed door. Displaying he does actually have some manners, Pitbull knocks.
"Come in..." a vaguely familiar voice calls from the other side of the door.
As Pitbull opens the door, the camera faces him as he walks forward and takes a seat at a desk.
"Ah, Cai. I was expecting you." The camera now spins around to show a smiling Aiden Bamford sitting on the opposite side of the desk. "How are things?"
"I take it you saw the show. You tell me," Pitbull grunts in reply.
"I saw. Not the end result you wished for I'm sure, but there are positives to be taken away."
Pitbull's demeanor had seemed to calm as he entered the office, but now his frown is back. "Positives? But I didn't win..."
Laughing, Aiden shakes his head. "Winning isn't everything, Cai - especially not as early in a career as yours. What makes the greats is the ability to take positives even from losses. You need to learn from them and make sure you don't make the same mistakes again."
"If you say so," Pitbull replies. He hardly looks convinced.
"Besides, you did win one match, didn't you? The one-on-one match; and as much as you might not think it right now, that was the important one. Losing in a multi-opponent situation can happen to anyone, but when it was one-on-one, you showed what you can do. Stephen Callaway is no pushover - I worked a lot with him in PWF and he's improved a vast amount even since then, not to mention he has a big experience edge on you. It was a win the Kingdom of Pride management would've certainly took note of."
"And the positives from the match I actually lost?"
Aiden smiles. "Well, I'll say this, Cai... I watched the match, and you looked every bit the beast I saw back in the UK, but at the same time it appeared you underestimated - more specifically they would do to win."
"What do you mean?"
"While you are physically vicious, there are plenty of men in this business who are, well, sneaky to put it kindly. You were dominating Eddie Nash and instead of allowing you to go about your business and finish him off, Johnny Noble saw the chance to take you out while you were distracted and be left with a vulnerable final foe," Aiden explains. "I accept responsibility on my part though. I knew this was possible and I sent you off to battle without warning. You cannot be expected to go about your business with one eye looking over your shoulder, so that is why from now on I will be in your corner. I'll make sure there are no unfair hindrances to your progress - which with me around will be rapid, believe me."
Pitbull shrugs. "Whatever you say."
It's clear - and almost unnerving based on our past experiences of him - that Pitbull has a lot of respect for Aiden. Why wouldn't he? This is the man that made this move happen. Without Aiden spotting Pitbull and alerting Noble and Sterling, Pitbull would probably still be beating on losers back in the UK.
"So I'll be there this week, when you take on Obscene. Your match with Callaway should help you a lot here. He and Obscene are similar competitors, veterans who have seen it all. It's not going to be easy but I expect you to win, and if you do you will definitely get the management's attention - they have a very high opinion of Obscene."
Pitbull nods. "I expect to win too, and I have every intention of delivering, don't worry about that. When I'm done pounding Obscene to a bloody pulp, Noble and Sterling will have no choice but to take notice and push me further up the card, where I belong."
"Good. Now I want you to get to the gym and prepare for this match like you never have before. I'll see you on Sunday."
Pitbull nods, before getting up from his seat and leaving the room as the scene fades to black.
Oh Pitbull will prepare all right - he'll live in the gym if he has to. Losing is not something he enjoys. It's not something he's used to and it brings back haunting memories. And no matter what spin Aiden puts on it, Pitbull sees no positives from Survival of the Proud, and is determined to put that right when he takes on Obscene at Oblivion.
