It's a party atmosphere at Eddie Nash's trailer park home as him, a few biking friends such as Mikey Hughes, Bolo and Viper as well as cuckold lawyer Martha Harrison all engaged in a few beers as a toast of Nash's success over the past coming weeks. He couldn't help but be happy. His spirits were high with his big win over Jason Phoenix and now he felt he was truly ready to take the Kingdom of Pride Valiant Championship and drag the company with him into a much brighter direction. Spirits were raised with everyone as everyone sat around a table chatting and playing cards with Nash dealing the hands. Harrison's poker-face was nothing short of sheepish while comedy cameraman Mikey Hughes seemed zoned out half the time anyway.
The chips were stacked mostly in Bolo's favour at this point but only one person had actually been forced to quit the game bankrupt. Bolo had played some lucky hands as well as a few choice bluffs and sweeped most of Jackson, the eliminated player's cash. As Nash shuffled the cards the crowd around the table went deathly quiet now as he slowly dealt out a hand to each player of the game. With everyone ready to play, it was the player on Nash's right who was to start the game which in this case was Martha herself. Martha looked at her cards, exchanged two cards and put two hundred dollars in. The next player was about to do something similar when Nash's phone began to ring.
”Ugh... Sorry guys... I gotta' take this.” Nash lamented remorsefully as he pulled out the phone. Caller I.D. Announced that it was Dave, his road agent and that if he was calling him at this hour it was probably something important. Nash pocketed his cards and stepped outside the trailer into the cool night air. A welcome change, now that Nash thought about it. As he'd been roasting somewhat inside the trailer, packed with noise, people and a decent heating system. Nash put the phone to his ear and listened to what the veteran road agent had to say.
”Dave... my boy. Little busy. What's up?” Ed asked, rolling his eyes. He wasn't in much of a mood to be talking about wrestling right now. He knew he had a match this week but against who was of no importance to him.
”What's up? I'll tell you what's up. Are you seriously considering California Pro Wrestling as your new home?” Dave howled, utterly bewildered at what he thought was Nash's plans to move extremely far away.
”No, Dave. I'm not going anywhere. I'm down with the Kingdom of Pride 'til the day we close up shop. I'm in it for life brother. Where'd you hear that?” affirmed Eddie, though at this point he had no idea that the Kingdom of Pride would actually be closing.
Dave cleared his throat. He was about to say something and Nash knew he wasn't going to like it.
”Oh... you don't know do you?” asked Dave ominously. Ed's teeth gritted.
”What?! What are you talking about?!” demanded Ed, his grip on the phone intensifying as he came close to hurling the device across the trailer park. He really didn't like the way this was going.
After some deliberation, Dave finally came out with it. The awkward silence was the longest one Nash would ever have and when Dave finally had out with it, it hit the King of the Road like a brick to the heart. ”Nash. Kingdom of Pride is closing down.” he finally announced, sighing as he did.
”What? How can it be? The place is as strong as ever. Ticket sales are on the rise. The Pride image is expanding. We're getting more publicity than we ever did. Why would we be closing down?”
”I d-. I just. I. I don't know Ed. Okay? All I know is that they're liquidating their assets and paying everyone their final pay cheques on the pay-per-view night. In any case, I heard that you were planning to go to California. Or, California was interested in you. Either way it's foolish.” groaned Dave, sounding visibly upset. Nash shook his head. He HATED California, the state that is.
”I've not heard anything about California Pro. I know they're pretty good but I haven't heard anything from them. Why, what have you heard?
”Just that they're offering you 1.5x the amount that KoP is currently paying you. Plus a company car. They think you're hot shit.”
”This is news to me. But then if I'm out of work soon then I guess I've got no choice, right?”
”Not exactly. Consider Universal Wrestling League.” Dave instructed.
”You think I could hack it there? They've got some of the biggest stars in the world.” I paused, thinking about some of the great wrestling legends of UWL. Shawn Stevens, Robbie Venom, Tic Tic, Jerry McClean, the list was endless.
”I know you could. Just, listen to me. On Sunday you're in a ten man tag match with all the big names that haven't quit Pride knowing the place is shutting down. Give it your all. Josh Eagles in your team and the two of you are the toughest guns the place has to offer. Just make you don't let the people down. Got it?” requested Dave, still a little shakey with rage.
”You've got it. I'll do my best. It's all I can do. I'd be a disappointment to myself if I didn't.” at which point Nash hung up the phone.
It still hadn't quite sunk in yet. Kingdom of Pride closing? This was unbelievable. Nash wouldn't have seen it coming and he didn't exactly know what he was going to do next. Nash's amazing successes in KoP to Nash seemed like nothing compared to the legacies of the UWL legends. Could he really become a UWL star? Or would he go to California? What about EUW? Only time would tell. All that was for sure is that The King of the Road's journey in Kingdom of Pride had come to an end.
