I met Dru Tha Merc and Niles Markie at a bar at a corner, in New York There was much to drink in terms of beer, and much do stare at in terms of women. You’d imagine this was Dru’s idea, after all you’ve heard of him and you know by now he is considered KoP’s “Number One Liability”. The joke here is that for being the “Number One Liability” of Kingdom of Pride, and other titles like “The Gangstar”, and “The Kingdom’s Resident Hoodlum”, isn’t such a bad guy to the fans and writers like me. Jovial, honest, and more than willing to crack a few jokes, it seems the only time Dru Dallins and his manager Niles Markie get nasty, is when it’s time to go to work.
So thanks for inviting me here, you guys come here a lot?
Dru: Me and Niles go to a lot of different bars on the road. A brother could really settling in a lot of different places but I usually like a place with good beer and good women really close together. Let’s me get my crunk on, if ya know what I mean. This place is just one of many.
Niles: With deliciously delicious beer.
So you’re trying to get back on your game, and the first thing you do is talk to Sterling and Noble about how you accept the role. Strange, coming from you.
Dru: I’ll admit it, it wasn’t the most intelligent thing a n**** could do in my situation. I kind of fell of my game when Kurt told me I was a liability. It was a strange sense you know, made me feel like, everything I was doing meant absolutely nothing. It’s a strange, strange feeling. All the wins, all the effort I put forth. In a strange way, it took it all away from my victories.
What brought it back though was Niles.
Niles: Nothing to do with it.
Dru: Hah, n**** hush. Niles pulls me aside in the locker room one day and he’s trying to explain to me like, “Is this what you really wanna do? Do you want to just fall by the way side, do you want to just let all of this be meaningless?” I admit, for a time, ya boy was kinda fallin’ off. I didn’t necessarily want to go out like that, but that’s where I was going. I lost this edge I had, this heart I had from since I was a younger wrestler.
So although this is not your first fed, you still see yourself as a lot to learn.
Dru: Man, I be honest with you bruh. I got my first start touring England and the rest of the UK. My first stint in wrestling was WOE, Wrestling on Extreme, and they toured all over Ireland and parts of Wales. I was basically a jobber, never won any titles and so on, you know how it goes. I remember I had originally started off with my cousin, Lyn Dallins and together we were known as The Dallins Gang. Now by no means were we a great team, but they wanted to push Lyn before they wanted to push me, which honestly, I’ve gotten used to over the years.
People see him, [Lyndon Dallins] as a sort of hero. Lyn is an admitted technical genius, and a lot of people see him as the Dallins that you want to work with. I am not, and I can admit it. I am almost sure that Noble and Sterling were signing people up and at first they signed my contract until they realized it was me.
You seem a little hurt by it?
(laughs) n****, I have gotten over feelings and **** like that. Honestly I am not surprised because that’s just the nature of the beast when you come from a wrestling family. The Dallins are well known around the Caribbean and the United Kingdom as very good workers, really nice people to work with all and all. Except for me. It’s not easy to be the black sheep, I can tell you that.
You don’t mind it though, do you? You seem to take pride in it.
I do. I do bruh-bruh. I like to be that guy the fans either hate because you see me in the ring, you see me trying to physically hurt Daevin, which I’m still proud of to this day, or scoring a win over Josh Eagles, and in your mind it’s like… “Why does this guy continue. This guy should be nowhere near a wrestling ring. He’s the scum of the earth.” On the other hand of things, a lot of fans are like it, they like seeing me brutalize people because they are like me, or they find a lot of similarities to me and them. They are those people who don’t win much, who don’t succeed much, so they get tough, they get ruthless. I love symbolizing that in the Kingdom.
A lot of fans call you things like, “The Kingdom’s Resident –“ then put things like Hoodlum, Outlaw… So on and so forth… A long cry from ‘The Gangstar’.
I honestly like these nicknames fans come up for me. I’d rather be called what the fans call me then what I originally named myself. Another way this business works I guess. I used to wrestle in SFW… Scarborough Fair Wrestling in London. A lot of fans called me the ‘Blackguard’. Now mind you, a blackguard is a terrible person, but I liked the irony of being black to go along with it. A n**** loves the attention.
Even though you are considered a liability, do you ever see title shots in your future?
That is up to three people. Myself, Kurt, and Jeremy. It’s up to me to prove myself to the fans, my bosses, and the boys in the back that I am just that kind of guy to be a champion, whether it’s Valiant or Syndicate. I told everyone, I am fine with being a liability. It’s whatever to me. No issue, no problem, no foul.
However it’s up to the bosses if I get a chance. Truth be told, after my little mental checkout, I gotta pull it back, I gotta get back into it. I need to hit the gym this month. I’ve been super slackin’ as of late but I don’t want that to let me be put away. I’m gonna show people what it takes to do what I plan on doin’.
At the time of this printing I’ll have a match against this girl Zombie. I may get stomped honestly but we’ll see how that goes.
Final question Dru… In Pride right now, who do you want to face?
There one person who I wanna see in Kingdom of Pride right now, and in terms of a feud, that’s Eddie Nash. I feel it would be the ultimate battle of good hoodlum versus bad hoodlum, but that’s just me. It would have to end with some kind of cage, preferably on fire, with bikers and prison inmates circling around. (laughs)
Honestly, I wanna face everyone that Kingdom of Pride has to offer me. I want to go out there and dominate, but right now, it starts with me sitting at the bottom…
The Kingdom’s Resident Hoodlum doesn’t want anyone to sleep on him, after all. -End
