The bright light from a beautiful full moon shines through the shattered windows of a familiar old church. The once abandoned building now holds one guest; Jason Phoenix. Rotting wooden pews, graffiti covered idols, and long hanging shredded curtains haunt the place. No creature but termites and raccoons have entered this building in ages. There is a musty smell, with weeds growing through the cracks in the rough floor boards. But the most fascinating feature in the warn room is the votive candle stand perched near the wall. Phoenix stands very close to it. Usually, this stand would be covered in old melted wax candles, unlit for what seems like centuries. But tonight, it’s ablaze. Every wick on the stand holds a small glow, creating a field of flame. Every small torch is lit, except the center candle.
It’s beautiful isn’t it? Each flame glowing stronger than the next. The warmth and protection given off is impeccable. A wave of pure power. A sea of victory. Each candle lit represents another victory. I have taken down many men in Pride, becoming stronger with each win. I have beaten the weak, and I have beaten the strong. But there is still one man that evades me.
Phoenix stares intently at the unlit center candle.
Josh Eagles; the bane of my existence. It seems as though recently my only goal has been to take him down. I have tried time and time again to defeat this man, but he seems unbeatable. But, I have done nothing but train over the last few days, barley stopping to eat or sleep. I am determined to beat this man. I have become stronger and studied new styles of fighting. Obviously I am doing something wrong to have fallen to one man so many times. But now I have learned new ways and tactics, but also have studied up on Eagles himself. He is a very, very strong man, but he has fallen before. He has won the title multiple times, but has barley ever held it for more than a few weeks. It is my turn to take the title away from him. I am ready for this match. This is my second shot at the title, and this time, it won’t slip away so easily.
A sudden noise from deep in the dark church startles Phoenix. Spinning around to see what it is, he bumps the table holding the candles, knocking one off onto the ragged floor. He jumps at first, nervous of the open flame, but the candle quickly lights the old torn curtain, setting the entire panel of drapery on fire. Phoenix slowly follows the crawling flame with his bright blue eyes. He stands in amazement at what his mistake has created. He begins to chuckle, and intentionally knocks another candle of the stand and into another set of tall curtains. Watching as his fire grows, he quickly walks over to an unlit curtain panel and pulls it down, covering the pews. Following his start, he circles the interior of the old church, pulling down all of the antique drapes, cackling a bit louder every time one falls. After he completes his task, he hysterically runs back to the votive stand and throws it over, sending the small candles flying. The curtains all set ablaze, igniting a roaring fire beginning to consume the ancient church. Phoenix stands in the center of his creation and begins to laugh manically; watching as his flame slowly devours the condemned building.
Look at this! Look at this glorious creation! It’s striking! Fire, fire everywhere! The heat, the glow, everything! It’s remarkable! Eat my friend, you deserve it! No one will miss this sad old building. Feast on the ruins, just as I will feast on the splendors of my victory over Eagles!
Phoenix’s blue eyes glow red from the reflection of the massive force surrounding him. He is in awe of the power he has created, looking around franticly as the flame licks the rotting walls of the building.
Haha! Josh Eagles you cannot defeat me! I am the Phoenix! Rising from the ashes and throwing all that try to defy me into my fire!
Phoenix lets out another huge cackle into the sky, surrounded by his fiery creation, as the scene slowly fades to black.
