It was strange being back in the corporate world. The past few days that had went by had been nothing but a blur, what I had wanted to be a quick visit back to Eagles Enterprises to check things out and make sure things were running smoothly now saw me back at the helm of a multiple million dollar franchise that seemed to have no slowing down in sight. I had to catch up on a ton of paper work, I had things to read, things to sign, calls to make; all in all I found myself going to be quite exhausted. To top it off I had been training harder then ever to make my debut in the Kingdom all that much more important. I knew that this was going to be my last chance, my last run, or hurrah sorta speak and I wasn't going to do anything but make the best of my chances.
I was working very closely with Katie day in and day out to get everything ready for my departure once again and her departure with me. I still found it weird that Katie Chang was choosing to leave everything she had earned here behind and hit the road with me. She wanted to make sure I could field issues while I was away on the road and apparently she wanted to help my wrestling career take off once again. She had already left her mark there was no doubt about that. A hair cut, shave, new clothes, she was trying very hard to change my former image. She said I needed to look a little bit more professional if I was going to be a champion I needed to dress like a champion.
I wasn't sure if it actually mattered, but I guess I needed to be presentable outside of the ring for my clients at E.E. as well so I couldn't complain. My only complaint was my upcoming match at the first Oblivion show for the Kingdom. I had been booked against a man I knew little about in Andrew Franklin, but rumors were circulating that he had walked out on the company for another deal and that my Main Event match up in a Beat the Clock challenge was now without opponent. I had only days left to prepare and still had no idea who I was to be facing. All in all it was stressing me out beyond belief and I was sure today wasn't going to bring much more relief.
Our story begins to unfold today in the top floor offices of E.E. which must have formerly been Katie Chang's office but had been refitted back to the offices of Josh Eagles even though it was packed mostly up other then a few odds and ends. Josh was sitting at his desk looking to be pouring over paper work. He was wearing a very nice black suit, with matching tie and his hair was cut much shorter and worn in a very interesting messy style that still looked rather slick. Josh did look a little worn, bags appearing under his eyes indicated sleep wasn't something he was getting much of these days.
But none the less he poured over page after page of paperwork and his hand kept grabbing a pen and signing here and there were it needed to until he finally looked like he was about to pop and he through the pen down onto the table and started to rub his temples as though he had a headache.
"God this paperwork is just so freaking boring. I think I'd rather be getting my face punched in during a match or something right now, I think it would hurt less."
Josh barely has time to finish his sentence as the door opens up and he throws his hands into the air in frustration as Katie Chang walks into the room. She looks quite nice wearing her black pony tail off to one shoulder and clips in her hair and a taking smile to say the least.
"Does anyone in this world knock?"
"Well as this was my office for as long as it was I find it hard to remember to knock. Besides my money was on that you weren't doing much anyway."
Josh looks at Katie and the sheer tired in his eyes was apparent, but his look was one she wouldn't soon forget.
"Katie we were supposed to meet three hours ago to go over these mounds of paperwork you said needed to get done and you are just showing up and I've been working my fingers to the bone trying to wade through it. I have been out of the game for sometime and it isn't the easiest thing in the world you know. Why don't you tell me what you've been so busy doing?"
"Well if you really must know I have been trying to find out if the Kingdom of Pride had made any new signings that could indicate who you have to face this week. I felt it was a worthy use of my time since it's all you keep talking about and until you know you won't stay focused."
Josh looks at Katie waiting, obviously waiting for her to tell him what she had found out.
"What? Please stop looking at me like that."
"Well do you care to tell me what you found out? Do you know who I am facing?"
"Oh right. You are facing Adam Abel. It seems he recently signed a contract with KoP and was booked as Franklin's replacement."
Josh stares at Katie quite silent for a moment mulling everything over in his head. Before he had been facing a little known half of a tag team that was looking to focus on that area and now he was facing one of the toughest men in his career. Adam Abel was no slouch and not someone Josh was expecting to walk into.
"Well this changes everything Katie, I am going to need you to move our flight to the next one possible we need to get to KoP as soon as possible."
"Josh, I don't think that is possible we have a ton to do here still."
"Pack it up and bring it with you Chang we are on our wait out of here on the next flight."
Josh begins to gather things off of his desk in a hurry and starts throwing them into a suitcase.
"Josh, hold on just one second."
Josh ignores her completely and continues tossing stuff around and getting ready to leave.
"Please just wait."
Ignored.
"I SAID STOP!"
Josh freezes in his tracks as Katie stands up and yells at him to stop. Josh and Katie meet eyes and they are frozen staring at each other in awkward silence.
"Now I know that it maybe weird I am coming with you, but I don't know a whole lot about this wrestling world quite yet and I am going to need time to grow into it alright? But right now if you want to get things done you are going to have to take the time to explain a little to me. I can't help not knowing anything and you running around like a lunatic isn't exactly inspiring the confidence we need right now."
"Look the long and the short of it is Abel and I have a very storied past. If he is booked against me he is going to be out for blood and I have to be prepare for him, the whole entire match outlook is different and I need my head to be in the game."
"I know you two have some history, that is what he said."
Josh looks confused as Katie makes her statement.
"What he said? What who said?"
"Adam Abel, he was on the Boston radio or something like that yesterday talking about his return to the ring and what he thinks about you."
"And you thought to tell me this just now?"
"Well I only heard it not too long ago. You can listen to it off the website, it's on your computer."
Josh shakes his head at Katie and sits down pulling up the site and with a somber expression listens to the interview with Adam Abel before finally turning it off running a hand through his hair thinking.
"So do you care to explain what it all means?"
"It's a little hard to. You see Adam uses some strong words and he certainly is quoting some things that I said about him but he is leaving out a lot of the story."
"Fill in the blanks then."
"Well you see Abel left out an awful lot. He left out that Jack Benevolance had beaten me by threatening to hurt my then preggo wife and had earned a title shot. I tried to get revenge and ended up costing Adam the title and because of it Adam started to resent me even more then he had before. But in the end it didn't matter because like I said before everyone could see that his passion was slipping that the loss had devastated him and he was having problems crawling back out of his rut. Abel had come very far to win that belt and he had it taken away from him and he blamed it squarely on me ... but I stand by what I said. Any true champion should have been able to bounce back from a loss.
But the month went on and Abel continued to pile up losses and look sluggish and unmotivated in the ring. He continued to complain about his family issues and he continued to let his fans down over and over again. Then he got his chance to win the belt back and like now he boasted and made a lot of large claims about what he was going to do and instead he got pinned to the mat 1...2...3 and what he will never admit is even though Jack got the pin, it was MY move that put him down for the count. After that we didn't see Adam Abel again."
Katie looks at Josh thinking about what he just said as Josh just stares off into space.
"So overall you felt that Adam had lost his passion, that Adam wasn't the man he was before."
"I did and I tried to tell him that. I tried to spark something in him hoping that it would drive him to another level, but it didn't. He was selfish, he stayed in his little dark place expecting his family to pull him out like he had time and time before. I don't know where Abel things I disrespect his family. He has the most loving family ever as I've never met someone who goes through so many 'dark' times as Abel does and then sits there and does nothing for himself. If it wasn't for his family Abel would be nothing, he would sulk in shadows and pity his own life all day. Adam showed me something during one match that I've never seen him able to replicate. The fame he talks about is barely there and mostly in his own mind right now. He just wants to pretend everything is back to the way it was.
I think Adam thinks that showing up and being in the last show of PWF changes something, that beating Tyrell changes something. The facts are simple, Adam Abel isn't half the man he used to be and he can't admit that. He's coming back and he is coming back here because he is hoping to erase the past, but he wants everyone to forget how he gave up first. It's truly unfortunate, he is using his sick family members as an excuse. We've all had issues, my unborn child was KILLED on live T.V. but I continued to fight, I never gave up. But Adam wants to take my words as offense instead when he knows them as truth. He needs an aggressor and he doesn't like that I've stepped into the fan spotlight, he doesn't like that I have managed to prove my own reform."
"So can I ask what you do about it?"
Josh gets up from his chair and stands facing out the window at the back of his office.
"I do what I can do, what I came here to do; I fight. I am booked in this match and it doesn't matter exactly how it is Adam feels the past went down or what he thinks was going on in my head. Him standing in Boston telling me he will crush me doesn't change what I have to do. I have to step into the ring and cash that check my mouth wrote once again. It was at my hands he lost his last championship, it was at my hands he didn't regain it, and it will be at my hands he doesn't move to the main event. He doesn't get to quit and then just come back begging for a shot that I continued to stay behind and earn. Abel is something I will never be and that is a quitter, he lost that spark and the day he regains it I will respect him once again. He needs to show me that heart, he needs to show me that he can bring it.
He has already made a mistake assuming that I am not already prepared for a match with him. I've been knowing that when Abel decided to grace us once again with his presence that I would be the first man on his list other then maybe Jack. But he isn't going to rebuild a career overnight at my expense that is a promise. So as I said I will step into the ring and fight, like I said before; it doesn't matter who I am facing I plan on winning and moving on for my chance to become the KoP Champion."
Josh turns around and he flashes Katie a signature smile.
"Understand a little better now?"
"I guess. What happens next?"
"We pack up and we fly to Tennesse. I would like to get a lay of the land once again, I worked a lot in that area with the UWL but it's been a while. When we get down there we hit the gyms and I do some training, nothing heavy or intense because I don't want to wear myself out, but I need to stay on top of things. I've been getting in better shape while Abel sat at home. I am focused, motivated, driven, and ready for this match. So we fly down and I beat Abel ... that is what is next."
Katie gives a crooked smile and nods as both of them now begin to pack everything up to bring with them as Josh heads to what could be the biggest return Main Event in wrestling history.
My cards had been drawn and things had become more complicated then I had ever wanted them to be. A match for the ages was coming and I would have to face someone who I had beaten and who had beaten me. Abel and I had pushed each other to the limits and back time and time again, but this time was my turn. All the threats and promises in the world wasn't going to change that. Talk was cheap ... well unless you work for E.E. but I had found that out the hard way. I didn't suck up to the fans or go for cheap pops. I showed my worth every week in the middle of that ring and I planned on doing it again.
I had a lot of responsibility on my plate but my top priority was showing Abel that I am no joke, that I can't be threatened or taken lightly. My first priority now was showing Abel that I had become twice the man he ever was and that this time around I was going to be able to handle more then what he could throw at me.
