Come on Tommy, get up those fists, don’t show me any weakness. Do you think Obscene or E.Nygma will give you an easy go at it?
Nick Hill stands upright, his ripped muscles glistening in the light. Across from him is Tommy Hargrove one of the debuting wrestlers in the Kingdom of Pride.
I am trying my best Nick; you don’t think I want to keep my hands up? It’s just that we’ve been training for close to twelve hours, my muscles ache, my head feels woozy and I am so hungry I could scarf down about three double cheeseburgers.
The muscular Nick shakes his head in disgust
We’ve been over this Tommy; you need to treat this body of yours like a temple. All this work you’ve put in, the hundred and fifty pounds you’ve lost, all of it will be for not. Get your head out of the gutter and concentrate. Do you think this man Obscene is sitting around filling his face with fatty foods?
Tommy shakes his head no; and wipes sweat from his brow
I understand that Nick, but this diet is killing me, man wasn’t mean to eat only fruits and vegetables, I want some meat, some hot juicy hamburgers, some silky smooth milkshakes, why must staying in shape be so difficult.
Tommy drops down on the floor and crosses his legs
Get up Tommy, don’t quit on me.
Tommy continues to sit on the ground, his chest heaves in and out. Sweat pours down his bald head and into his eyes; the burning sensation causes him to squint.
Just give me a minute Nick! I am exhausted, how do you expect me to compete when you are running me ragged? I don’t think I’m ready Nick, maybe we should wait, maybe I should just tell the management that I need more time.
Nick walks over to Tommy and places his right hand on Tommy’s left shoulder.
How much time do you need Tommy, you’ve been training for nearly a year. You have come a long way my friend, remember when the kids in school would call you butterball, scarface, and pimple king? Do you remember when Lucy Taylor asked you to go on a date, and then her brothers flushed your head in the toilet and forced you to walk home naked.
Tommy looks a bit bashful, his cheeks begin to turn beet red
Dude you were right there with those kids calling me names, putting signs on my back, and weren’t you the one who was standing next to Lucy Taylor when her brothers were doing those horrific things to me?
Nick somehow manages to hold back laughter; Tommy doesn’t seem to notice as he runs his hand along his bald head.
That is my whole point Tommy, look how far you’ve come. This week you have an amazing opportunity to prove the world wrong. If you some how manage to pull out a victory you can prove all those nay Sayers wrong. You have the ability; you have the training now all you need is the confidence, where is that Tommy I knew who tackled that gun toting man to the ground? Where is that Tommy I knew who walked into gym class every Thursday even though he knew when it came time for basketball he’d be put on the skins team just so the other kids could laugh as his man boobies jumped up and down?
Tommy looks up
Where is that Tommy who looked me in the face and told me he was ready to stop being a fat shit?
Tommy gets to his feet
I am right here Nick!!! I am ready to show those assholes that I’m not to be pushed around anymore, whether it’s Gary Sorrento, Chad Pierru, Obscene or E.nygma I am ready for any and everything.
Nick gives his pal a few friendly slaps on the back.
That is what I wanted to hear Tommy. You’re had a rough life partner, but when I look into your eyes, I see something, I see a champion, something the children can look up too, and I see a man who is ready to shine. So Tommy are you ready to shine? Are you ready to leave your mark on the world? Are you ready to beat the living snot out two no talent half witted clowns?
Tommy sticks out his chest and seems to have a renewed burst of energy.
I can feel it Nick, I know I can do it, I might not know a lot about wrestling, but what I lack in experience I make up for in determination. I’ll never be made a joke again, no matter how good or experienced Nygma may be, no matter how emotionally unstable and depressed Obscene may be, I’ll never allow myself to be pushed around. I am Tommy Hargrove and I am awesome.
Nick gives another playful slap
Don’t get too full of yourself kid, nobody likes an asshole
Tommy nods in agreement
I understand Nick, don’t worry, I am confident, not ego-centric; I understand that life is a bitter pill to swallow. I’ve swallowed the bitterest of pills, now in the KOP it’s time for something sweet to take place.
Nick begins to instruct Tommy on various technical wrestling moves. Tommy always being the willing student listens intently and attempts to perfect the moves as Nick shows them to him.
